The lie of human free will and the new birth in Jesus Christ: Giving God all the credit for what never happens is lying

The will of man is not free to put into action what men desire to do. That is obviously seen in Scripture and in everyday experience. That is a worthy fight –to keep uppermost in the mind of men that they do not have free will. Men are constantly controlled by liars to the destruction of all from an earthly, temporal viewpoint, on the very basis of the deception of free will. It is grace from God to know the will is not free at all,in addition to being not free to ‘chose Jesus’.

What is also plain from and in the Word of God is the old creature has nothing, nada, zip, to do with the new birth in Jesus Christ. We were and others are born again by hearing the Word of God.That is, we are made non-metaphorical new creatures in Jesus Christ  –totally new creatures — with the mind of Christ, new heart, new spirit and new will. NEITHER will ( that of the old creature or the new creature in Jesus Christ ) had anything to do with the new birth in Jesus Christ. The will of the old creature is not free to re-create itself –it has no such power and is not given such power by God. The will of the new creature in Jesus Christ does not exist until after the new birth and very plainly had nothing to do with being born.

We are complete and entire new creatures in Jesus Christ who have heard the Word of God.

1 Peter 1:23-25  being born again, NOT of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the living and abiding word of God. Because all flesh is as grass, and all its glory as the flower of grass. The grass has withered and its flower has fallen;  but the word of the Lord abides for eternity. But this is the word which in the glad tidings is preached to you.

It is not possible to corrupt the new creature in Jesus Christ. “..born again, NOT of corruptible seed”. The corruption of the flesh is very much still going on. But we are not flesh:

Romans 8:6-9  For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit life and peace.  Because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God; for neither indeed can it be:  and they that are in flesh cannot please God. But *ye* are not in flesh but in Spirit, if indeed God’s Spirit dwell in you; but if any one has not the Spirit of Christ *he* is not of him:

You can get caught up in mere theological correctness, even of the five points of Calvinism, and say “the will is not free to chose God.” While that is also true –the will is truly not free to chose God — the new birth is not a question of choice by either creature –at all.

A recent statement attributed to John Piper is that essentially, the will is not free to choose God, but that “asking/letting God into your heart” is  something you must do as an act of the human will, with God causing the will to act toward Him as an act of His grace on the one ‘asking’/’letting’. That presumes a pre-new birth effect on the heart and will  of the old man that makes it want to be a new creature and so ‘follows directions’ to be born again. But that presumption is heresy and denies the Word of God as Creator.

Basically what Piper has said is that there is no new birth in Jesus Christ without an act of the will of man first. Period. He simply tries to give God all the credit for that supposed act of will of man as a stab at glorifying  God 100% and  man 0% and may seem to be a Calvinist by so doing. What he has actually done is be a Arminian with one of the Five Points.

You can preach on how great God’s grace is to sinners, how wonderful that He gave Himself for our sins, ..the Cross! the Cross!  , then “He arose, He arose!”  …you can say the truth that God is a pro-active Savior and took all responsibility for human sin on the cross and compliment God all day with such speech. But when you pose that the purpose of that cross, resurrection and grace was to get you to use your will some preferred way –at all– much less to come to God –you have denied the new birth and the power of God. You may be doing so to get an audience together or some such activity, but you are lying . You are not speaking in Christ, not being Reformed and not being a Calvinist when you give God “all the credit” for doing what never happens. God is not saying that through you.

AFTER the new birth, God indeed works in us both to will and to do His good pleasure.

Php 2:12,13  So that, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much rather in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,  for it is God who works in you both the willing and the working according to his good pleasure.

But God plainly Says the new birth has NOTHING to do with the will of man:

John 1:12,13  but as many as received him, to them gave he the right to be children of God, to those that believe on his name;  who have been born, not of blood, nor of flesh’s will, nor of man’s will, but of God.

1. received Him as Word first

2. That received Word works in us, who have been made new creature by the presence of that Word in us,  to do His will. He simultaneously creates us anew and lives in us.

God plainly Says “he did not give Himself to man.”

John 2:24,25  But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,  And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

Satan falsely praises God a LOT. While Satan may give God all the credit –as truth — for making Satan Satan, Satan also gives God credit for ‘doing’ things that don’t happen at all. Giving God credit for what never happens is not glorifying God. It is lying.

1Corinthians 2:14-16  But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him; and he cannot know them because they are spiritually discerned;  but the spiritual discerns all things, and *he* is discerned of no one.   For who has known the mind of the Lord, who shall instruct him? But *we* have the mind of Christ.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen
